Kamyshin (Камышин) is a city in the Kamyshin district (Камышинский район) and Volgograd oblast (Волгоградской области) of the Russian Federation. During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was the administrative centre of the Kamyshin district (Камышинский уезд) in the Saratov province (Саратовская губерния) of the Russian Empire.

Tchaikovsky in Kamyshin

Tchaikovsky visited Kamyshin on 24 May/5 June 1887, as part of his journey down the Volga River. "The whole city seems to pour down to the water's edge, and is very original in its own way (boarding and balustrades above the cliffs)" [1].
