Trabzon is a city on the Black Sea coast of north-eastern Turkey and the capital of Trabzon Province.
During Tchaikovsky's lifetime the city was part of the Ottoman Empire, and known as Trebizond or Trapezund.
Tchaikovsky in Trebizond
Tchaikovsky visited Trebizond from 1/13 to 2/14 May 1886, on his journey through the Caucuses to the Mediterranean. He liked the city, which was "reminiscent of some oriental fairy tale" [1].
As well as visiting the Greek hilltop monastery, he composed a little of the third act of the opera The Enchantress during his short stay.
