Каменка 1-го ноября 1883 Милый друг! Я не получал никакого твоего письма, где бы ты говорил о выкупе кольца не ранее ноября. Было письмо, где ты говорил, что раньше 26 окт[ября] нельзя выкупить, и это совершенно верно, ибо был назначен 3-месячный срок (с 26 июля по 26 окт[ября]). Итак, я думаю, что это не рассеянность ли с твоей стороны, и так как желаю поскорее кончить вопрос этот, то и бегал сейчас телеграфировать тебе. Относительно Годара ты прав, — но зачем эти черти пишут мне такие умильные письма? Во всяком случае прошу и требую, чтобы это было на мой счёт. После я тебе расскажу, почему я почёл себя обязанным безденежно выслать партитуры свои. Каким образом сюита № 1 осталась неоплаченной, я не понимаю, но не ошибаешься ли ты? Нельзя ли ещё посмотреть? Во всяком случае, что с возу упало, то пропало, и я за неё ничего не хочу, а за 2-ю желал бы получить (500) р[ублей], в том числе 50, которые ты уже уплатил Баталиной. Но тебе грозит ещё бедствие: я пишу сборник детских песней, коих будет не менее 15, и так как мне кажется, что они очень удачны, то я не намерен быть скромным и хочу взлучить тебя на все корки. Зато потом уже долго ничего не буду писать. Не можешь ли ты узнать, когда предполагается постановка «Мазепы» в Москве и когда меня туда вызовут. Я бы хотел остаться здесь подольше и очень буду рад, если весь этот месяц можно будет прожить ещё в деревне. Засим обнимаю тебя и от души благодарю за то, что либретто «Онегина» уже печатается.
