Что-то приумолк мой милый московский корреспондент! Я {{sic|нахожу|нахожусь}} в очень скверном расположении духа и вот почему. Я кончил инструментовку двух последних частей сюиты и сделал клавираусцуг, а знаменитая утраченная рукопись до сих пор не появляется. Из письма брата я вижу, что он просил Осипа Ивановича взять на себя пересылку. С тех пор прошла две недели. Что бы это значило?

Ты получишь партитуру и клавираусцуг собственного изделия к рождеству, если только рукопись не пропала. Хорошо было бы, если б к последнему концерту М[узыкального] о[бщества] поспели печатные голоса и в виде 3-ей корректуры по ним бы исполнили эту вещь. Мне бы очень этого хотелось. Но, вероятно, ты скажешь, что я с ума сошёл и что голоса нельзя гравировать, как блины пекут! В таком случае извини.

В двух твоих последних письмах заключается очень ''робкий'' твой ''ропот'' на судьбу. Мне нравится, что ты с мужеством переносишь своё весьма щекотливое и подчас, должно быть, убийственно тяжёлое семейное положение. Хотя мы с тобой никогда об этом не говорили, но я, тем не менее, очень хорошо понимаю, что тебе подчас жутко приходится. Извини, что я полез в интимные разговоры, но я тебя искренно люблю и мне ужасно бы хотелось, чтоб совершился какой-нибудь переворот который возвратил бы тебе спокойствие и семейное счастье. Увы! я знаю, как это трудно, ''хотя и не невозможно''.

Если я решился заговорить об этом, то это для того, чтобы ты знал, что в случае, если тебе захочется облегчить душу излиянием, ты всегда найдёшь во мне друга, который принимает в тебе самое тёплое участие.
