From time to time I need to live in such a manner, i.e. to find myself in a "tête-a-tête" with mother nature. This is the height of pleasure for me. I spend the whole day walking, dreaming, reading and playing, without conversation. My poor score is waiting for me at Kamenka, languishing and moping after being away from me for so long.

Have you received the suite?

A female human being, who by an inscrutable turn of fate bears my name and is bound to me by a marriage, performed according to the rites of the Orthodox Church by Archpriest Dmitry Vasilyevich Razumovsky, abbot of the Church of St. George in the Fields, has directed a letter to my brother Anatoly (I forbade her to write to me), in which she informs him that she was fed up with the insults and that she wishes formally to divorce me.
In short, this is the same old rigmarole, and it will probably end in nothing all over again. But this time I won't act unless an until it turns out that matters are taking a serious turn. I've instructed Anatoly to say that I'm not giving her any money.
