However, his healthy condition didn't last long, and yesterday I learned from Masalitinov (who is very nice to us, but rather fed up with me) that ~~Rymin~~ had begun to talk nonsense again, and his brother has taken him from [[Rome]] to Switzerland, where, it seems, they want to put him away. The day before I had toothache, we spent an evening at Golitsyn's. In the past, I would have enjoyed such a ~~soiree~~. Представь, кто у нас на днях был? Константин Рюмин. В первую минуту я ужаснулся, но потом оказалось, что он совсем такой, как был прежде. Однако ж его здоровое состояние продолжалось недолго, и вчера я узнал от Масалитинова (который очень с нами мил, но порядком надоел мне), что Рюмин опять стал завираться, и его брат увёз из Рима в Швейцарию, где, кажется, его хотят усадить. Накануне того дня, как у меня заболели зубы, мы провели вечер у Голицына. В прежнее время такой вечер доставил бы мне удовольствие. Премиленький юноша прелестно пел итальянские народные песни; шла весёлая болтовня; было бесцеремонно и оживлённо, — но я невесть как рад был, когда можно было улизнуть домой.

Недавно здесь провёл 5 дней А. Рубинштейн, и они виделись с Листом. Господи, какие тузы проживают иногда в Риме!

Работа моя идёт хорошо и спешно. Бесселю о симфонии написано — жду ответа.
