At his insistence, on Friday I have to visit the [[Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich]]. On Tuesday there's to be a concert here organised by Isakov, consisting exclusively of my works, in which [[Panayeva]] and the orchestra of the Russian Opera are taking part. Yesterday I was invited to the Quartet Society, where [[Auer]] and [[Karl Davydov\|Davydov]] played my [[String Quartet No. 2\|2nd Quartet]], and I was ~~giving~~ a standing ovation and presented with a wreath. This is all very flattering — but, God, how tired I am, how horrible I find everything here, and how I imagine leaving [[Petersburg]] as some sort of unattainable happiness! It's madness how little I appreciated the immeasurable bliss of being free abroad! From morning here until the depths of the night, I ''must'' go somewhere and see ''someone''. This is tyranny of the most sickening nature. [[Vera Butakova]] is a fine one! No matter how much I begged her to spare me from the evening with ''[[Konstantin Konstantinovich]]'', she wouldn't budge. And today I have to be at ~~here~~ ''exposition'' before the Grand Duke. Вчера я был приглашён в Квартетное общество, где играли Ауэр и Давыдов мой 2-й кварт[ет], и мне была сделана овация с поднесением венка. Это очень лестно, — но, боже, до чего я устал, до чего мне здесь все противно, и как я воображаю об выезде из Петербурга как об каком-то невозможном счастии! Безумец, как я мало ценил за границей всю неизмеримость блаженства быть свободным! С утра до глубокой ночи я здесь все куда-то ''должен'' идти и ''кого-то'' ~~Видеть~~. Тирания самого омерзительного свойства. Хороша Вера Бутакова! Как я ни умолял её избавить меня от вечера с ''Конст[антином] Конст[антиновичем]'', — не согласилась.
