Нового сообщить тебе нечего. Балакирев сегодня уезжает: как он ни утомителен, а справедливость требует сказать, что это очень честный и хороший человек, а как артист он стоит неизмеримо выше общего уровня. Мы сейчас трогательно с ним распростились.

В последние дни совершил несколько дачных поездок и, между прочим, одну с Балакиревым. На днях я давал вечер, на котором были Балакирев, Бородин, Кашкин, Клименко, Арнольд и Плещеев.

У Лароша родилась дочь, которую взялась воспитывать старуха-мать Лароша. Я его видел в Эрмитаже и даже поздоровался, но мириться и сходиться вновь не намерен. Наняли мы с Рубинштейном порядочную квартиру, в которой и тебе найдётся место, когда приедешь.

Как я начинаю тревожиться а Саше! Сегодня 19 число. Модеста нет, значит я могу заключить, что ан остался, чтобы ехать вместе с Сашей! Очень жаль, что история так кончится.

Тороплюсь страшно, а потому прекращаю, чтобы не наврать. Пиши же, я от тебя только 1 письмо получил.
