Then I dashed out to buy a tailcoat — but, alas, today is Sunday, and I found only one little shop which happened to have a scruffy, but still serviceable, tailcoat for sale. Then at precisely one o'clock I was the the Villa Sciarra. The Grand Dukes were not yet there. Some gentleman from the retinue received me with great courtesy. Half an hour later, the Grand Dukes appeared, I was introduced to both Aleksandrovichs, and an endlessly long lunch immediately commenced. The Aleksandrovichs are most agreeable, especially Pavel, whose eyes very much resemble the heir's. I was treated kindly. At 3 o'clock I left the Villa ''Sciarra'' and walked home. Один из гриефов Голиц[ына] против Кондратьева тот, что ''Бобринский'', решително избегающий Голицына, очень ласков с Кондрашоном. Нужно видеть напускную серьёзность Н[иколая] Д[митриевича], когда он, как бы нечаянно, упоминает о том или другом обстоятельстве, касающемся Бобринских; при Голицыне! А по мнению последнего, вилла Бобринских n'est qu'un repaire de jouers et tricheurs!!
