The next day I had to rise early in the morning and take the first train to [[Nice]]. The journey was quite tiring. [[Nice]] is a rather tedious little town, and I'll be glad to leave here. We're going to leave the day after tomorrow, on Tuesday. I'll be staying in [[Paris]] very briefly; I'm starting to be strongly drawn to Russia: I think that I'll see you at the end of March or the start of April, my dear [[Lyonya]]! Не могу тебе выразить никакими словами, до чего я был поражён и потрясён этим ужасным известием! Особенно за границей тяжело быть в такое время: как-то стыдно и больно перед иностранцами! Офицеры были очень любезны и гостеприимны и угощали нас так усердно, что мы оба с Ник[олаем] Дм[итриевичем] были немножко пьяны. На другой день пришлось встать рано утром и с первым поездом выехать в Ниццу. Дорога была довольно утомительна. Ницца прескучный городишка, и я рад буду уехать отсюда. Мы собираемся выехать послезавтра, в четверг. В Париже я пробуду очень недолго: меня начинает сильно тянуть в Россию: думаю, что в конце марта или в начале апреля мыс тобой увидимся, милый мой Лёня!
