			[[Lyonya]]! You asked about Klimenko. When I was in [[Kamenka]], he asked me to find him a position, and I found him somewhere at [[Pyotr Ivanovich]]'s, but it seems that nothing will come of it. He regards himself rather highly, and keeps imagining that this is some sort of affront to him. [[Pyotr Ivanovich]] is very displeased with him. This is a shame, because he is a capable young man and he could have made something out of it, if only if he'd been more modest and didn't consider himself to be some sort of great poet.

			Please, try to influence him, and knock all this nonsense out of his head.

			[[Lyonya]]! I'm worried that you have no money. ''Go to [[Pyotr Ivanovich]] and borrow as much as you need''. I'm sorry for writing so little — it's very late.

У нас теперь слава Богу всё благополучно и все здоровы. Погода стоит великолепная. Через неделю будет карнавал. Увы! вряд ли нынче у нас будет свой балкон. Я заходил спросить о цене того балкона, который был у нас 2 года тому назад: сказали ''350 фр[анков]''. Значит, на сто франков дороже тогдашнего, — да и то, тогда я заплатил только половину, а теперь без Ник[олая] Дм[итриевича] придётся всё заплатить. Может быть, возьму какое-нибудь окно, если найдётся.

Лёня! Ты спрашиваешь о Клименке. Он просил меня, когда я был в Каменке, достать ему место, и я его поместил к Петру Ивановичу, но, кажется, ничего из этого не выйдет. Он что-то про себя воображает, и ему всё представляется, что его обижают. Пётр Иванович им очень недоволен. Жаль, потому что малый способный и мог бы выйти из него толк, если б был поскромнее и не считал себя каким-то великим поэтом.

Пожалуйста, постарайся повлиять на него и выбить у него разную дурь из головы.

Лёня! меня беспокоит, что ты без денег. ''Сходи к Пeтру Ивановичу и возьми сколько нужно''. Прости что мало пишу, — очень поздно.
