	Dear [[Anatosha]]! Finally, after several days of uncertainty, and even some anxiety, [[Lyova]] and [[Tanya]] returned yesterday. It won't now be as carefree and peaceful here as it was without [[Tanya]]; she's already managed to poison everything with her presence: she lay around all yesterday, she was nauseous the whole day, at dinner she was so terribly pale that you couldn't even eat a bite looking at her. Poor, poor [[Tanya]] — created in order to bring joy to everyone, and yet, God knows why, she has become the poison of universal peace. There are now details about [[Vera]]. She gave birth, of course, not without suffering, but entirely safely for both herself and for the child. Yesterday [[Sasha]] let it be known that she, i.e. [[Vera]], is advised not to nurse the child herself, however, but to hire a wet nurse, whom they want to take from [[Verbovka]]. The day before [[Lyova]] came, a telegram arrived from Smela: "[[Nikolay Tchaikovsky]] will be arriving this evening", and indeed, at 11 o'clock in the evening, this railway bigwig appeared, was treated very kindly by me and the girls, and refused supper, since that day he had been treated to a gala dinner at Baron Hahn's — a circumstance which was indeed confirmed for us by the frequent belching that interrupted the speech of the esteemed older brother; he spent the night here (as my neighbour, and prevented me from sleeping — at first with his cough, then with his snoring), saw [[Lyova]], had dinner, listened to a whole series of tedious tall tales from the life of Nikolay Vasilyevich, recounted to him during a visit to the big house, he walked with us, told several bawdy anecdotes, which made him to laugh more than anyone else, causing the field and the surrounding area of [[Kamenka]] to quake with his sonorous bass voice, then, giving only one ruble as a tip to Stepan, and, despite my instructions, absolutely nothing to the others, he left on the 8 o'clock train to [[Petersburg]]. But I'm awfully keen to finish the opera as soon as possible, and to write the 7 piano pieces which [[Pyotr Ivanovich]] commissioned from me for a good sum, which I need terribly. Теперь уже не будет здесь так беззаботно и покойно, как было без Тани; она уже все успела отравить своим присутствием: провалялась вчера целый день, целый день её тошнило, за обедом она была так страшно бледна, что .кусок в рот не лез. смотря на неё.
