Было бы странно, если б я ''вычеркнул Вас из памяти сердца''. Не говоря уже об искреннем уважении к Вам как музыканту и человеку, которое я питал бы, даже если б судьба не сталкивала бы меня с Вами, — могу ли я не ценить множество проявлений дружеского сочувствия, которое Вы мне оказывали? Я могу без всяких фраз сказать, что если бы и ещё 10, 20 лет прожил, не видя Вас, — всё-таки никогда бы не забыл Вас и не перестал бы с любовью думать о Вас как об одной из самых светлых, безусловно правдивых и даровитейших художнических личностей, с какими встречался. От души благодарю за намерение предложить мне сюжет для симфонической поэмы и радуюсь Вашему сочувствию. Если буду в Петербурге, конечно, побываю у Вас. Моя склонность к уединению и жизни вне общества, конечно, не может распространяться до того, чтобы я отказывал себе в удовольствии видеть Вас и беседовать с Вами, и достаточно того, что Вы меня к себе зовёте, чтобы я почёл для себя приятным долгом явиться к Вам, как только попаду в Петербург. Меня очень интересует Глазунов. Не найдёт ли этот молодой человек возможным прислать мне для просмотра свою симфонию? При этом я желал бы знать: один или с помощью Вашей, или Римского-Корсакова он работал над внутренней и внешней отделкой. Если б посылка симфонии оказалась возможной, то адрес мой на сей случай такой: ''Фастовская линия, ст[анция]. Бобринская, Смела, оттуда в Каменку''.
