Некто камергер Н. Д. Кондратьев имеет доставшуюся ему по наследству картину, которую желал бы продать и, узнав, что я имею честь быть лично знакомым с Вами, просил меня написать Вам и спросить Вас: не расположены ли Вы приобресть эту картину? Сам я не берусь оценить её достоинства, — но она имеет, так сказать, исторический интерес и во всяком случае не лишена некоторой ценности. Картина изображает ''Куликовскую битву''; размеры её очень большие; рама старинная, золочёная. Как гласит надпись внизу, писана она «''по указу его Царского Величества импер[атора] Петра Алексеевича гофмалером Матвеевым в 1719 г[оду]''». Среди множества фигур изображены исторические лица: ''Инок Пересвет, Воронцов, кн[язь] Прозоровский, кн[язь] Белозерский и п[рочим]. Копий картина не имеет.

Если Вы доверяетесь суждению Сергея Михайловича, то можно было бы попросить его побывать у г. Кондратьева (''Ивановская'' № 2) и высказать своё мнение.

Вот уже почти 2 недели, что я ежедневно собираюсь уехать за границу и никак не могу собраться, так как с самого моего приезда сюда постоянно нездоров. Несносный петербургский грипп удерживает меня в комнате, и чем невыносимее видеть из окна печальную картину петербургской зимы, тем нетерпеливее хочется попасть в более благоприятствуемый небом климат.

Потрудитесь передать от меня искреннее почтение и поздравления с праздником Вере Николаевне и всему Вашему семейству.

Former chamberlain [[Nikolay Kondratyev|N. D. Kondratyev]] has had occasion to inherit a picture, which he should like to sell, and, learning that I have the honour to be personally acquainted with you, he asked me to write to you and ask you whether you would be disposed to acquire this picture? I myself do not presume to appreciate its merits — but it has, so to speak, historical interest, and in any case is not without some value. The picture depicts the ''Battle of Kulikovo''; its dimensions are very large; its frame is old and gilded. The inscription below reads "''by order of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Pyotr Alekseyevich, from court painter Matveyev in 1719''". There are many historical personages amongst the many figures depicted: ''Monk Persevet, Vorontsov, Prince Prozorovsky, Prince Belozersky and others". The picture has not been copied.
