The point is that ''[[Nikolay Rubinstein\|Rubinstein]]'' took away with him a copy of my score which had no title on it at all, and since I knew nothing about this — indeed, the printing of my overture was carried out without my direct involvement — the title was drawn up by the publisher himself. As a result, ''the dedication to you'' was not indicated on the title-page. I know that you do not lose anything by this, but you may perhaps see in this manifestation of my absentmindedness and carelessness a lack of consideration for you on my part, and that would be all the more unpleasant for me given that my Overture is as much your offspring as it is mine. You gave me the idea for it, and the overture owes its existence to your encouragement. In any case, I shall send you a copy as soon as I receive one. Если действительно существует публикация о скором выходе в свет ''клавираусцуга'' моей Увертюры, то, значит, ''Bote и Bock'' уже его имеют, т. е. поручили его сделать какому-нибудь немцу; но я сомневаюсь, чтоб эта публицакция существовала. Как бы то ни было, а за переложение ''г-жи Пургольд'' я весьма благодарен и вполне убеждён, что оно отлично. Прошу Вас немедленно переслать мне его для отсылки за границу. Поправлять я его, разумеется, не стану и напишу ''Bock'у'', чтобы выставил имя ''г[оспо]жи Пургольд''. По поводу моей Увертюры скажу Вам, что я в величайшем горе. Дело в том, что ''Рубинштейн'' отвёз копию с моей партитуры, на которой заглавия вовсе не было; а так как я об этом обстоятельстве ничего не знал, и вообще напечатание Увертюры совершилось помимо моего непосредственного участия, то заглавие составлено самим издателем, и ''посвящение Вам'' не выставлено. Я знаю, что Вы от этого ничего не теряете, — но Вы можете усмотреть в этом проявлении моей рассеянности и безалаберности — недостаток внимания к Вам, а это было бы мне тем более неприятно, что моя Увертюра есть столь же моё детище, сколько и Ваше.
