Получил сейчас от Г. П. Кондратьева извещение, что 25 начинаются репетиции «''Мазепы''» и приглашение прибыть в Петербург ради этого. Я подробно изъяснил ему, почему мне невозможно уехать из Москвы, где тоже только что должны начаться репетиции.<br />
<br />
Прошу Вас убедительно, не дожидаясь меня, репетировать мою оперу, причём ''всё свои авторские права касательно вмешательства в разучивание и исполнение оперы я всецело передаю Вам''. Ни минуты не останавливаюсь на мысли, что моё отсутствие может помешать успешному исполнению оперы в Петербурге. Я питаю ''неограниченную веру'' в Ваше дружеское участие к судьбе моей оперы и решительно отказываюсь от права предъявлять впоследствии какие бы то ни было претензии на несовершенства исполнения. Будьте уверены, что я нисколько не преувеличиваю, говоря, что ''безусловно'' доверяюсь Вашему искусству, опытности и дружбе. Как только состоится здесь первое ''представление'', я буду свободен и могу приехать в Петербург, но убедительно прошу Вас не ставить время 1-го исполнения оперы в зависимость от моего присутствия. Дайте её когда найдёте нужным, а я приеду, ''если можно''. <br />

I've now been notified by [[Gennady Kondratyev|G. P. Kondratyev]] that the rehearsals for "''[[Mazepa]]''" will start on the 25th, and inviting me to come to [[Petersburg]] for them. I've explained to him in detail why it's impossible for me to leave [[Moscow]], where rehearsals are also about to start.<br />
<br />
I earnestly request you not to wait for me in order to rehearse my opera, and furthermore ''I fully convey all my rights of authorship relating to involvement in the preparation and performance of my opera to you''. I haven't a moment to spare on the thought that my absence might interfere with the successful performance of the opera in [[Petersburg]]. I nurture ''boundless faith'' in your amicable participation in my opera's fate and categorically waive the right to subsequently bring any claims for any imperfections there may or not be in the performance. Be sure that I am by no means exaggerating when I say that I have ''unconditional'' confidence in your art, experience and friendship. As soon as the first ''performance'' takes place here, I shall be free and can come to [[Petersburg]], but I earnestly request you not to fix the time of the opera's first performance to coincide with my presence. Let it be whenever you find it necessary, and I will come ''if possible''.<br />
