I'm answering the following 3 questions: 1) As arranged, I went for '' [[Nikolay Tchaikovsky\|Nikolay]]'' on the day of my return from [[Petersburg]] at the ''appointed hour, but I didn't find him'', and after waiting for about an hour, I returned home. 2) I read "''Mon frère Ives''" on the way here. I recognise the author's great talent, but in general this seems much too dark in tone for me. Even the successful resolution of every misfortune didn't help. It was sad all the same. But it's original, new and extremely expressive and vivid. 3) I've already told you about "The Benefactor" and the proposal that you write monthly chronicles for "Russian Thought".		[[Modichka]]! 	There will be a second orchestral rehearsal today. Everything is going very decently, and unlike my previous operas, I'm not experiencing painful disappointment. I saw [[Vera]] yesterday at [[Tolya]]'s. I received an invitation from [[Petersburg]] to ''immediately'' attend the orchestral rehearsals of "''[[Mazepa]]''". I replied that I could not, and asked them to act as if I were not in Russia at all.		There will be a second orchestral rehearsal today. На 3 вопроса отвечаю следующее: 1) ''к Николаю'' согласно обещанию, я ездил в день возвращения из а Петербурга в ''назначенный час, но не нашёл'' ~~его~~ и, прождавши около часа, возвратился домой. 2) «''Mon frère Ives''» я прочёл на пути сюда. Признаю в авторе большой талант, но в общем вещь эта показалась мне слишком мрачною по колориту. Даже благополучное разрешение всех невзгод не помогло. Всё-таки грустно. Но оригинально, ново и в высшей степени живо и рельефно. 3) О «Благодетеле» и предложении «Русской мысли», чтобы ты писал ежемесячные хроники, я уже сообщал.		Модичка!
