Модя! Доехал благополучно. Первое впечатление было ''разочарование''. То, что Алёше показалось роскошным и великолепным, — мне представилось пёстрым, безвкусным, потёртым и грязноватым. Я сразу и самым положительным образом решил, что Майданово не будет моим постоянным и вечным местопребыванием. Но год или, по крайней мере, до начала будущей зимы прожить можно, а летом будет даже просто великолепно. Устроились мы покамест в четырёх комнатах, из коих одну (гостиную) нечего считать, ибо она до того холодна, что ничем согреть нельзя. Да и в остальных холод порядочный; но есть камины, да притом конец зимы не так уж далёк. Эти остальные комнаты довольно уютны, хотя дешёвая пестрота их убранства мне немножко противна. Дом велик, и летом мы все чудесно разместимся. Местность ''прелестная'', и ты будешь вполне доволен. Рояль привезён. С несимпатичностыо обстановки я очень скоро помирился, решив, что это временное место-пребывание. Зато вид из окон, тишина, сознание, что я у ''себя'', — всё это так приятно, что я весь день провёл в самом приятном расположении духа. Повар оказался очень дешёвый и отличный. Из другой прислуги покамест есть только ''мужик'' (муж Алёшиной сестры), а завтра должна явиться прачка. После обеда я ходил пешком по реке в ''Клин'' (чудесная прогулка); пил чай в 4 часа; написал большое письмо ''Бюлову'' пишу тебе, напишу ещё Толе; буду ужинать, почитаю, поиграю и лягу спать. Алёша спит рядом со мной — совсем не страшно. И вообще здесь очень оживлённо. Несмотря на некоторое разочарование, я счастлив, доволен, рад, покоен. У тебя будет чудесная комната наверху. Для Н[иколая] Дм[итриевича] есть нечто очень подходящее, ему напишу завтра. А покамест нежно целую и обнимаю.
