All three of us went straight to the baths where I... washed myself. We dined at Massiu's with Zhedrinsky. In the evening we went to the theatre ("The Song Birds") and drank tea in the garden with Yuzefovich. Yesterday morning I went to Yuzfovich's, inspected the Sophia Cathedral, and had dinner (again with Zhedrinsky and Yuzefovich) at Massiu's. After dinner we went to the Lavra, where we spent the time ''most'' pleasantly; then it was back to the Chateau, and supper at home. (We are staying at the Grand Hôtel.) This morning the three of us went to the Lavra and had dinner at Terye's. Now I'm sitting at home and writing to you. In general, [[Kiev]], as always, made a delightful impression on me. I saw Sasha Gudim only briefly; he is unrecognisable, pensive, distracted and not in the least courteous. It must be down to his love for Bulygin. Zhedrinsky is ~~sympathetic~~ to the point of ''nec plus ultra''; he promises to carry out your instructions. Yuzevovich is funny. [[Modest]] is inseparable from us, and very sweet. You were summoned by the prosecutor in [[Kiev]] at the insistence of [[Modest]], who for some reason imagined that this is what you wanted. But you can rest assured that you aren't needed at all.
