Позволь ещё злоупотребить твоей любезностью и попросить выдать одному господину, который придёт с запиской от меня, 25 р[ублей] сер[ебром]. Все 100 р[ублей] я тебе аккуратно выплачу при близком уже свидании. Насчёт Бесселя — все вздор. Я накануне отъезда заключил с ним действительно условие насчёт моей оперы. Полагаясь на его способность везде быть ''продавцом'', я поручил ему хлопотать в дирекции о постановке «''Опричника''» и за это отдаю ему право собственности на означенную оперу, а также обещаю одну треть поспектакльной платы. Мнение своё насчёт этой вонючки я никогда не изменял и ни в какие интимные отношения вступать с ним не намерен. Что касается до других сочинений, то я неопределённым образом обещался ему что-нибудь дать, — но никаких обязательств не делал. Веры в его великую будущность во мне нет, и я даже склонен думать, что он скоро прогорит. Увертюра моя попала к нему следующим образом. ''Боте и Бок'' потребовали с меня платы (35 талеров) за напечатание партитуры. Я рассказал это Бесселю, который попросил позволения заплатить им эти деньги и при этом выручить оба клавираусцуга, которые валялись у Бока даром. Согласись, что я не имел никакого основания — не дать на это своего соизволения. Если бы в твоём воображении мысль это явилась ранее, — то уж, конечно, я бы более был рад видеть моё творение в твоём владении, чем в чьём-либо другом. Прощай, душа моя, благодарю заранее за услугу.

Permit me to further abuse your kindness and ask you to give one gentleman, who will arrive with a note from me, 25 silver rubles. I will repay you all 100 rubles promptly when next we meet. As for [[Bessel]] — this is all nonsense. On the eve of my departure I settled the actual terms for my opera with him. Taking him at his word that he was a ''salesman'' in every respect, I engaged him to petition the directorate to stage "''[[The Oprichnik]]''", in return for which I will give him proprietorship of the opera, and also promised him one-third of the performance fees. My opinion of this stinker has not changed, and nor do I intend to enter into a close relationship with him. So far as other works are concerned, I vaguely promised to give him something or other, but made no firm commitment. I have no great faith in his future, and I'm even inclined to think that he shall soon go bankrupt. My overture was given to him in the following manner. ''Bote and [[Bock]]'' demanded a fee from me (35 thalers) for printing the score. I explained this to [[Bessel]], who asked my permission to pay them this money, which would thereby be redeemed by both piano arrangements, which [[Bock]] gave to him. I confess that I had no reason to withhold my consent to this. Had this idea occurred to you earlier, then yes, certainly I would have been happy to see my creations in your possession, rather than someone else's.
