Весь наш план рушился. Мне невыразимо совестно перед тобой и перед Натальей Николаевной. Вкратце вот в чем дело. До сих пор я ничего не говорил ''матери'' о предположенной перемене в судьбах её сына. Теперь, когда уже оставалось только устроить дело, я счёл своим долгом написать ей об этом. Неожиданно я получил от неё письмо, в котором она заклинает меня ничего покамест не предпринимать.
