Извините, милый Сергей Иванович, что давно не писал. Я был довольно долго нездоров, потом завален корректурой оперы, которую нужно приготовить во что бы то ни стало к концу месяца, да ещё в промежутках между делом и бездельем доканчивал черновые эскизы симфонии, которая мне надоела ужасно, и я ощущал потребность поскорей развязаться с ней и дать ей недели три полежать.

От ''Третьякова'' до сих пор не имею ещё известий относительно приглашения ''Сафонова'' и т. д. Я напишу ему и напомню об обещании. Кстати, у меня есть просьба к Вам. В случае если понадобится фортепьянный учитель для Консерватории, я очень прошу Вас взять ''Пахульского'', окончившего с медалью у нас курс. Могу рекомендовать его как очень дельного учителя.

Был я на днях по делу (своему) в Консерватории. Видел ''Альбрехта'', цветущего здоровьем и очень весёлого. Конечно, его нимфа ''Эгерия'', т. е. Анна Константиновна, была тут же. Налицо были также Генерал, Лангер и другой секретарь. Под конец моего посещения явился Кашкин, несмотря на ранний час дня, в состоянии приятного опьянения. ''Губерты'' уехали в конце месяца в Карлсбад. Вот и все, что могу Вам сообщить о Консерватории.

Судя по Вашим последним письмам, Вы находитесь в хорошем состоянии духа и тела, чему я от всей души радуюсь. Знаете ли, что мой брат Анатолий назначен прокурором в Тифлис и едет туда в августе? Это обстоятельство послужит мне предлогом в ближайшем будущем побывать на Кавказе. Под ближайшем будущем я подразумеваю, однако, будущую весну. Я, кажется, нашёл наконец местечко для окончательного устройства недалеко отсюда, в деревне, называемой ''Кошелево''. Вчера я ездил туда и остался очень доволен. Очень уединенный, милый уголок.

Кажется, я никуда не поеду и думаю, что к Вашему возвращению буду находиться здесь, в Майданове.

Имел письмо от Лароша. Оригинал. Он поселился в ''Куопио'' в Финляндии, восторгается местом, но, судя по письму, хандрит и ничего путного не делает.
