{{centre|Dear friend [[Vladimir Nápravník|Volodya]]!}}
I have received your letter and read it with a lively interest. You described excellently all the twists and turns you all had to endure. I very clearly imagined your glum, pale faces at the start of the opera (particularly your dear mother), becoming gradually brighter and ultimately the expressions of triumph and happiness. I tell you that this sort of success is much better than the reverse, i.e. when the first act produces delight, and later it goes cold. I am very, very glad for your father (give him a hug from me) and for all of you. I kiss [[Olga Nápravník (mother)|Olga Eduardovna]]'s hands; bow to your brothers and sisters. Thank you!!!
