Очень грустно было прочесть в письме Вашем, что разом несколько огорчений и разочарований принесли Вам эти праздники. Неприятности всегда приходят целой гурьбой; но зато и хорошие дни являются на смену вереницей. От души желаю, чтобы всякие тучи и тучки на Вашем горизонте поскорее рассеялись. Что касается ''Бесселя, Кюи и Co.'' то лучше всего на них плюнуть и отвернуться. Я получил от Бесселя в довольно дерзком тоне (чего прежде никогда не было) письмо, в котором он подтверждает свою выдумку о посещении Вас вместе со мной и говорит, что ''вся его жизнь посвящена служению правде''!!! На это я отвечал ему, что я также имею претензию служить ''правде'', но так как ''моя и его правда совершенно различны'', то я не желаю знать его и прекращаю раз навсегда всякие сношения как с его фирмой, так и с его личностью. Нет худа без добра. Я радуюсь, что могу отныне избавить себя от неприятности давать руку такой личности, как Бессель. Меня всегда тяготило это обстоятельство.

Очень, очень грустно, что Ольга Эдуардовна не приедет на «''Черевички''». А что, если бы Вы сами ради рассеяния проехались в Москву? Как я бы рад был увидеть Вас и знать, что Вы будете среди публики на первом представлении! Мне кажется, что Вам полезно бы было проехаться и немножко развлечь себя.
