Майков в припадке излишнего усердия к сокращению расходов лишил Московскую оперу ''Крутиковой''. Трудно изобразить, до какой степени это тяжёлая утрата для Москвы, и я решительно недоумеваю, каким образом заменят там такую, превосходную, талантливую и умную артистку, как ''Крутикова''. Сожалея о Московской оперной труппе, нельзя в то же время не пожалеть и самой жертвы тирании г. Майкова, которая лишилась неожиданным образом средств для жизни.

Не могли ли бы Вы, многоуважаемый и добрейший ''Иван Александрович'', оказать ''Крутиковой'' Вашу помощь и покровительство привлечением её в состав Петербургской труппы, которой она несомненно сделается одним из лучших и полезнейших членов? Усердно прошу Вас о том; я был бы счастлив, если бы через моё посредство ''А. П. Крутикова'' могла получить подобающее ей удовлетворение за незаслуженный, оскорбительный и обидный образ действий Майкова.

Инструментовку «''Чародейки''» я кончил.
