Votre bonne lettre a pris bien du temps pour arriver jusqu'a moi, car j'étais en voyage et ce n'est q'aujourd'hui que je la reçois. Je m'empresse de Vous remercier de tout mon cœur pour tout ce qu'il y a de {{sic|flatteux|flatueux}} pour moi dans cette lettre et Vous prie de croire que je suis fier de ce qu'un artiste de Votre valeur témoigne autant {{sic|d'intérès|d'intérêts}} et de {{sic|sympathie|simpathie}} pour ma musique. Malheureusement il m'est tout à fait impossible de me trouver à Berlin le 26 Octobre! Jusqu'en Decembre je devrai rester en Russie et ce n'est que vers la fin de ce mois que je pourrais me rendre à Vôtre invitation. Ne pourrait on pas remettre Votre concert à plus tard? J'ai' lieu d'espérer que j'aurai l'occasion de prendre part à un des concerts de la ''Philharmonie'' de Berlin; cela {{sic|dépand|dépend}} de certaines combinaisons, et personne mieux que M[onsieu]r Wolff ne pourrait Vous renseigner sur ce point. Si cela s'arrangeait et que Votre concert pouvait être remis jusque là, — certainement ce serait pour moi ne grand plaisir et un grand honneur que de conduire l'orchestre quand Vous jouerez ma «Fantaisie». Mais si cela ne peut s'arranger, espérons que je trouverai plus tard l'occasion de Vous prouver que je suis bien touché de l'attention que Vous voulez bien me témoigner.<br />

Une remarque. Dans certains endroits de la «''Fantaisie''» l'orchestration est un peu trop forte. Veuillez observer à celui qui conduira l'orchestre qu'il faut modérer autant que possible la masse des instruments partout où le piano joue en même temps que l'orchestre. Mais surtout dans la premiere partie, là où l'orchestre joue <br />

et à des il faut un {{und2|ppp}}!!! et le ''crescendo'' tout ce qu'il y a de ''poco a poco''.<br />

Your kind letter took quite some time to reach me because I have been travelling, and I only received it today <ref name="note1"/>. I hasten to thank you with all your heart for the flattering contents of this letter, and I beg you to believe I am proud that such a renowned artist shows so much interest and sympathy for my music. Unfortunately it is impossible for me to find myself in [[Berlin]] on 26 October! I must remain in Russia until December, and it is only towards the end of this month that I could take up your invitation. Could your concert be postponed until a later time? I have reason to hope that I shall have the opportunity of taking part in one of the ''Philharmonie'' concerts in [[Berlin]]; this depends on certain circumstances, and there is no-one better than Monsieur [[Wolff]] to advise you on this matter. If it were arranged, and your concert could be deferred until then, it would certainly be a great pleasure and honour for me to conduct the orchestra while you play my ''[[Concert Fantasia|Fantasia]]''. But if this cannot be arranged, let us hope that on a subsequent occasion I will have the opportunity to prove to you that I am very touched by the attention you have afforded me <ref name="note2"/>.<br />

One observation. The orchestration in some parts of the "''[[Concert Fantasia|Fantasia]]''" is a little too dense. Please draw the attention of the conductor of the orchestra that it is necessary to moderate the mass of instruments so far as possible wherever the piano plays at the same time as the orchestra. But especially in the first movement, where the orchestra plays<br />
