Seulement je me permettrai de Vous dire que l&amp;#039;idée que Vous avez d&amp;#039;introduire une {{sic|fète|fête}} de &amp;#039;&amp;#039;{{sic|Bohèmiens|Bohémiens}} russes&amp;#039;&amp;#039; au deuxième acte n&amp;#039;est pas tout à fait de mon goût. Il faut Vous dire, Monsieur, que les &amp;#039;&amp;#039; {{sic|Bohèmiens|Bohémiens}} russes&amp;#039;&amp;#039; ne chantent que des chansons nationales &amp;#039;&amp;#039; russes à leur façon&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. It is only their manner of singing which really is original, and I do not think that your proposed &amp;#039;&amp;#039;gypsy feast&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, such as you have envisaged it (that is, musically illustrated by the singing of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Russian gypsies&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), could add anything to the charm of our future opera. It would be a dissonance, something that would &amp;#039;&amp;#039;jar&amp;#039;&amp;#039; with the rest. Pagodas, Buddhist beggar-monks, snake-charmers, bayaderes – and to have alongside all that Russian gypsies singing banal tunes, even if they are rendered not without a certain &amp;#039;&amp;#039;savage&amp;#039;&amp;#039; charm… No, there is no way these can go together!!!&lt;br /&gt;

It is completely impossible for our opera to be ready for the Exposition. The day after tomorrow I am leaving on a long journey! I have two concerts to conduct in [[Petersburg]]; immediately after that I have an opera to stage in [[Prague]], and then there is an endless succession of concerts I have to conduct in Germany, Sweden, and England! I will not be able to set to work in earnest until after half a year&amp;#039;s time, and, moreover, I have several tasks to fulfil before devoting all my time to our opera. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;I hope to be able to deliver the score in time for the start of the 1890–1891 season&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&lt;br /&gt;

Do you not think, dear and kind Monsieur [[Détroyat]], that the title of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[La Courtisane]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is liable to expose us to the reproach that we have not given sufficient heed to propriety? In Russian at least this title is utterly out of the question. We could come up with another title, don&amp;#039;t you think so?&lt;br /&gt;
