Я почти что окончил эскизы пятой картины балета «Спящая красавица». Все будет кончено не позже как к 1-му июня. Но интересно было бы знать, правда ли то, что я вычитал в одной русской газете. Она сообщает, что постановка ''нашего'' балета отложена на сезон 1890-91 г[оды], а в предстоящий сезон намереваются возобновить балет «''Конёк-горбунок''». Дело в том, что если известие это верно, то я мог бы не очень торопиться с инструментовкой балета, имея в своём распоряжении целый год и даже больше; если же только это ''утка'', я должен немедленно приступить к делу, чтобы партитура всего балета была готова к сентябрю. Будьте же добры, дорогой г. Петипа, уведомить меня, действительно ли дирекция решила отложить наш балет до сезона 1890-91 гг.

Отсюда я уезжаю через несколько дней и около десятого мая рассчитываю уже устроиться у себя в деревне. Около 25 мая думаю приехать дня на два в С[анкт] Петербург и, если застану ещё Вас там, буду иметь удовольствие повидать Вас.

I have almost finished the sketches for the fifth scene of the ballet "[[The Sleeping Beauty]]". Everything should be finished no later than 1st June. But it would be interesting to know if what I read in one Russian newspaper is true <ref name="note1"/>. They reported that the production of ''our'' ballet has been deferred to the 1890/91 season, and that in the forthcoming season they intend to revive the ballet "''The Little Humpbacked Horse''" <ref name="note2"/>. In the event that this news proves to be true, then I would not need to hurry with the orchestration of the ballet, having a whole year or more at my disposal; if this is merely a ''canard'', then I must set to work immediately, in order that the whole full score of the ballet should be ready by September. Be so good, dear Monsieur [[Petipa]], to inform me whether the directorate have decided to defer our ballet until the 1890/91 season.

I am leaving here in a few days and by around the tenth of May I expect to be settling myself in the country. Around 25 May I am thinking to come to [[Saint Petersburg]] for a day or two, and if I find you there then I shall have the pleasure of seeing you again.
