	I had the good fortune to receive your letter of 4th April only yesterday. The delay was due to the fact that for a long time in [[Moscow]] they did not know my whereabouts in From [[London]], where the last of my foreign concerts took place on 11 April/30 March, I travelled directly to [[Marseilles]], where I immediately boarded a ship for a direct voyage to [[Batum]]. I swam extremely pleasantly, and this had the most beneficial effect on my frayed nerves. From [[Batum]] I came to [[Tiflis]], where I spent three weeks, indulging in absolute idleness and flaneury. [[Tiflis]] is charming at this time of year: everything is blooming, fragrant, and ''der Brausende Khur'' (i.e. the River Kura) rushes headlong towards the sea, splashing about and refreshing the somewhat stuffy spring air. I have a brother here with his wife and daughter, and some ~~very sympathetic~~ friends, and the time has flown by. Tomorrow morning I am going to [[Moscow]] and home via the Georgian Military Road. I have a great deal of work ahead of me this summer. It is difficult for me to express to Your Highness how exhausted I was from my trip abroad, and how frantically homesick and miserable I was the whole time, mentally. However, success accompanied me everywhere. It is rather disappointing that no news appeared about me in the Russian newspapers. I am well aware of the reasons why our Russian press was silent about my successes; these are petty squabbles that I do not wish to write to you about, but I do actually find it strange that the Russian public is completely unaware that a Russian musician honourably supported the banner of his native art for 3 months in all the musical centres of Europe. As a curiosity, I shall tell Your Highness that in one of them it was said that the Grand Duchess, your Mother, played the cello in the orchestra. Из Лондона, где состоялся последний из моих заграничных концертов 11 апр[еля]/30 марта, я прямо приехал в Марсель, где тотчас же сел на пароход, шедший прямым рейсом в Батум. Плавание моё было чрезвычайно приятно и имело на мои измученные нервы самое благодетельное влияние. Из Батума я приехал в Тифлис, где провёл три недели, предаваясь безусловному ничегонеделанию и фланированию. Тифлис в это время года очарователен: все цветёт, благоухает, а ''der Brausende Khur'' (т. е. река Кура) бешено мчится к морю, шумя и освежая несколько душный весенний воздух.
