	Friend [[Nikolay Konradi\|Nikolasha]]! I received your letter, and, on reading it, was filled with a desire to go to you as soon as possible. But circumstances have developed in such a way that it's now impossible for me to leave. I'm finishing my sextet with feverish haste, because in the very first days of August they will be ''playing'' it for me in [[Petersburg]], which I both need and wish for terribly. But then, as soon as this has happened, I'll be leaving [[Petersburg]], without calling at [[Frolovskoye]], and going to [[Grankino]]. In short, forgive me, golubchik, but I won't be appearing in [[Grankino]] before 6 or 7 August. According to our agreement, I am to let ''[[Bob]]'' know, so that he can leave for [[Kharkov]]; but I wouldn't count on him. I'm going from here to [[Petersburg]] for a week, on 27 July. I cannot go to the Caucasus along the Volga, because this journey would take too much time, and most likely I'll go from [[Kamenka]] for 3 days to [[Ippolit]] in [[~~Taganorov~~]], and from there in the banal and commonplace route to Rostov and [[Vladikavkaz]]. [[Anatoly]] values every day of my stay in [[Tiflis]] so much that I am obliged to forsake the Volga. What a shame! Naturally, I'll be very glad if you accompany me to the Caucasus. 	Друг Николаша! Письмо твоё получил и, читая его, был преисполнен желанием поскорее ехать к вам. Но обстоятельства так сложились, что сейчас мне выехать невозможно. Я кончаю свой секстет с лихорадочною торопливостью, ибо в самых первых числах августа мне его в Петербурге ''сыграют'', а услышать секстет мне, во 1-х, нужно, а во 2-х, страшно хочется. Но зато, как только это случится, — я из Петербурга, уже не заезжая в Фроловское, еду в Гранкино. Одним словом, прости меня, голубчик, но ранее, как 6 или 7-го августа я в Гранкино не явлюсь. ''Бобу'' я, согласно уговору, дам знать, чтобы он выезжал в Харьков; но я на него плохо рассчитываю. Отсюда в Петербург я еду через неделю, 27 июля. На Кавказ придётся ехать не Волгой, ибо эта поездка взяла бы слишком много времени, а вероятнее всего, из Каменки поеду дня на 3 к Ипполиту в Таганрог, а оттуда казённым банальным образом на Ростов и Владикавказ. Анатолий так дорожит каждым днём моего пребывания в Тифлисе, что я принуждён отказаться от Волги. А жаль! Очень буду рад, разумеется, если ты на Кавказ поедешь со мной вместе.
