C&#039;est une promesse depuis longtemps donnée à Lucien &#039;&#039;Guitry&#039;&#039; qui jouera &#039;&#039;Hamlet&#039;&#039; pour son bénéfice. Je devais aller à Pesth, Mayence, Francfort pour y diriger dans des concerts — mais depuis deux mois je souffre d&#039;une {{sic|nevralgie|névralgie}} au bras droit et j&#039;ai dû refuser. Il est presque décidé que j&#039;irai comme l&#039;année passée quelque part en Italie pour travailler à mon aise. La Direction de Pétersbourg me fait une nouvelle commande : &#039;&#039;un opéra en un acte et un ballet en deux&#039;&#039;. &#039;&#039;Je ne puis refuser&#039;&#039; et d&#039;ailleurs c&#039;est très avantageux. &#039;&#039;Dans tous le cas&#039;&#039; j&#039;irai à Paris ne fut-ce que pour quelques jours.
