Милый Модя! Сейчас у меня был ''Chopard'' и принёс письмо от тебя. Тут я с ''Шопаром'' и познакомился, ибо мы лечимся не у него, а у доктора ''Conahon''. Случилось это потому, что я здесь живу под фамилией ''Davidoff'' и не хотел, чтобы Шопар, предупреждённый тобой, разоблачил моё инкогнито. Не сожалею об нем, как о докторе, ибо нам попался по рекомендации директора ''Hôtel des Thermes'' тоже отличный, очень умный и симпатичный доктор, — но всё-таки ''Шопар'' ещё симпатичнее и, так сказать, свой человек. Паня лечится у него. О начале нашего пребывания Боб тебе писал, значит, ты знаешь, что из огромного ''Hôtel des Thermes'', где у нас были омерзительные клетушки, мы переехали в маленький, очень милый ''Hôtel Gr[ande] Bretagne''. Комнат у нас с Бобом ''три'', огромный балкон, масса мебели.
Обедаем за отдельным столиком, и кормят нас прекрасно. Рекомендованные тобой отели оказались очень плохими — или, по крайней мере, у них не было уже хороших комнат. Сегодня минула неделя, что мы здесь. Она тянулась, как семь месяцев, и я с отвращением и ужасом думаю о следующих двух. ''Виши'' мне так же отвратительно теперь, как 16 лет тому назад, — но думаю, что воды будут мне полезны, а главное, убеждён, что они Бобу принесут много пользы. Боб не весел, но и не скучен, т. е. совершенно так же, как и я, переносит с терпением здешнюю жизнь. Она сложилась у нас так. Утром я встаю очень рано и, уже одевшись, бужу Боба. Потом пьём воды (утром ''Hôpital'', вечером — ''Gr[ande] Grille''), шляемся по-новому и старому парку, причём Боб очень бывает вял и печален. В 10 завтракаем (Паня с нами), после чего бежим в большое кафе (у казино) пить кофе. Это любимые минуты Аня для Боба. Все гарсоны уже нас знают и чуть за нас не дерутся. После кофе всегда идём в ''Casino'', где я читаю «''Новости''», а ''Боб'' пишет письма, причём ''Руде'' почти каждый день. После того идём переодеваться (мы купили себе лаунтеннисные костюмы) и едем: Боб на ''би-'', а я на ''трисикле''. После того, не успеешь опомниться, как уже нужно идти в баню, т. е. мы по собственной инициативе берем ванны из ''eau-доже''. В 3 часа уже мы должны быть на ''душах'' у доктора ''Sejenne'а''. Эти ''души и ужасно'' страшны, и ''ужасно'' приятны. Не знаю, брал ли их Коля, — если да, то нечего и описывать, как это происходит. Затем питье вод. фланирование и в 5½ обед. Опять бежим пить ''кофе''. Потом заходим за Паней и идём в театр. Мы шесть дней сряду были в театре, ибо давали все хорошие, весёлые пиэсы вроде: «''Durand et Durand''», «''Madame Montgadin''» и т. п. Только вчера вместо театра поехали на ''Montagne-Verte''. В 11 часу ложимся. Спали в первые ночи скверно, теперь оба спим отлично.

Доктор находит, что ''Боб ''{{und2|серьёзно}} нездоров, что у него печень в отвратительном состоянии и что, независимо от Виши, от должен всегда вести строго-гигиеническую жизнь. В противном случае ему угрожают всяческие болезни, — но больше всего ''тучность и сахарная болезнь''. Боб нисколько не мнителен и очень мало испугался этих докторских угроз. Вообще Бобу, кажется, решительно ''всё'' — всё равно, ничто его не увлекает и ничто не пугает. Впрочем, за исключением {{und2|Руди}}, есть ещё один новый ''интерес'', а именно — оказывается, что ''Боб'' ужасно любит туалет и способен с любовью им заниматься. Я очень этому радуюсь и стараюсь подливать масла в огонь. Впрочем, никак нельзя сказать, чтобы Боб особенно томился и тосковал. Совершенно, как я минутами бывает очень весел, но большею частью ни то ни се, и оба мы только и думаем об отъезде.

С ''Паней'' отношения уста но вились правильные, но ...... лучше, кабы её здесь не было. Она, несомненно, влюблена в Боба и только ради этого приехала сюда. Ну, а ему это не ахти как приятно. Мне же досадно за него, а ей не могу простить, что она бросила Анатолия и Таню в такое время, когда этого никак не следовало делать.

С большим интересом прочёл твоё письмо, и, боже, как мне захотелось в ''Гранкино''. Но я ещё решительно не знаю, куда поеду из России, т. е. в ''Каменку'' с Бобом или ''прямо'' в Клин. Одно только знаю: не могу без ужаса подумать о разлуке с Бобом, — ведь я ещё никогда так долго не жил с ним в таком постоянном общении. Тяжело будет расстаться с ним.

Будь здоров, пиши как можно эффектнее и сценичнее. Милого ''Колю'' нежно обнимаю. Следующее письмо ему. Наре и Назару очень кланяюсь.
