	I don't know anywhere more tedious and ~~objectionable~~ than [[Vichy]], and naturally I shouldn't have survived even a single week here, were it not for my nephew ''[[Vladimir Davydov\|Davydov]]'', who needs [[Vichy]] even more than me. The days drag on like months, and it's appalling to think that I still have to live here for 2 more weeks. And yet it cannot be said that I've been at a loss for how to use the time; the whole day flashes by, such that there isn't even time to pick up a book. I've been expecting proofs from you, but so far I haven't received anything. So much the better, because I would have struggled to do them. Better to concentrate on them diligently when I return home. Сейчас послал тебе телеграмму о деньгах. Черт знает что такое! Мечтал, что ко времени поступления новых доходов у меня останется несколько тысяч, которыми положу начало своему капиталу!!! Теперь вижу, что по-прежнему проживу все, что имею. Есть много оправданий моему мотовству, т. е. не все оно по моей вине происходит, — но от этого не легче.

Скучнее, противнее Виши я ничего не знаю, и, конечно, я не выдержал бы здесь и одной недели, если бы со мной не было племянника ''Давыдова'', которому Виши ещё больше нужно, чем мне. Дни тянутся, как месяцы, и я с омерзением думаю, что осталось ещё 2 недели здешнего житья. И между тем нельзя сказать, чтобы я затруднялся как употребить время: целый день проходит в беготне, так что и книги в руки не успеваешь взять. Я ожидал от тебя корректур, но до сих пор ничего не получил. Да оно и лучше, ибо я затруднялся бы, когда ими заняться. Лучше займусь ими усердно, когда возвращусь домой.

Хорошо ли ты съездил? Отчего нет так давно никаком писульки от тебя?
