Я сейчас узнал вещь, которая меня ''глубоко обрадовала''. Я уже несколько раз и очень энергически говорил с ''Всеволожским'' об «''Орестэйе''» и всячески старался заинтересовать его, но не знал, какое имело действие моё старание. Сейчас я был у него и узнал, что он ''очень, очень, очень'' заинтересован, вероятнее всего потому, что ему ещё не приходилось ставить опер из греческой классической старины, — а ведь его всего больше постановка интересует. Он при мне отвёл в сторону ''Направника'' и начал советоваться с ним насчёт того, предложить ли государю «''Орестэйю''» в репертуаре на будущий сезон. Направник, разумеется, отнёсся к твоим достоинствам с большим уважением, но, убедившись, что он будет недостаточно ''горяч'', я подскочил и вновь стал убеждать в крайней необходимости поставить «''Орестэйю''».
