Спасибо за Ваши хлопоты и труды по поводу сведений о пароходе. Само собой разумеется, что мысль о поездке в Англию морем оставляется, ибо я не могу рисковать опозданием, даже в случае, если б навигация открылась несколько ранее 15-го мая. Итак, еду через ''Флиссинген''. Знаете что? Я Вам советую совершенно оставить мысль об Англии. Ну какое нам будет удовольствие, если ''он'' все время станет злиться и капризничать? А предположить, что он сам захочет в Лондон или Кембридж, — этого ожидать нечего. Итак, уж лучше устраивайте прямо поездку в Норвегию. Конечно, мне было бы удивительно приятно с Вами путешествовать, но делать нечего. Что касается интереса, представляемого моими тамошними ''exploits'', то Лондон не представляет ни малейшего и никаких особенных оваций и ожидать нечего. Вот Кембридж—это действительно, должно быть, интересно будет, и жаль, что Вы не увидите. А вот что мне пришло в голову. Не съехаться ли нам в Норвегии? Но об этом поговорим при свидании через 2 недели.

Thank you for all your trouble and work in getting the information about the steamship. It goes without saying that the thought of going to England by sea is now abandoned because I can't risk being late, even if the sea route were to open a bit earlier than 15th May. So, I am going via ''Vlissingen''. Do you know what? I am recommending that you completely drop thoughts about England. What sort of pleasure would we get if he is going to be grumpy and capricious all the time? And to imagine that ''he'' <ref name="note1"/>, of his own accord, would want to come to [[London]] or [[Cambridge]]—this we can't expect. So, it would be better for you to arrange a trip directly to Norway. Of course, it would be very pleasant for me to travel with you but there is not much we can do. As for the interest arising from my ''exploits'' over there, [[London]] represents little, no particular applause, and there is nothing much to hope for there.
