That they are poor is true, or at least they plead this is the case; your price seemed high because ''[[Menter]]'' agreed to come for 1000 marks, and ''[[Sapelnikov]]'' and others (I do not recall who) for 500. Believe me, [[Aleksandr Ziloti\|Sasha]], that I employed the same eloquence in this matter as ''Sieger'' in his persuading the directors in [[Frankfurt]] regarding my conditions. Both of these are genuinely or affectedly stingy — well, to hell with them. I am not in the least frustrated or sorry that I shall not make it to [[Frankfurt]].
