Сейчас получил твоё письмо. Меня очень разозлила бесцеремонность Бочечкарова, которого даже оспа не может оправдывать. Он только что получил от меня через Алёшу 30 рублей; остальные мог достать у других своих друзей и знакомых. Как бы то ни было, но я и слышать не хочу, чтобы 50 рублей были даны тобой. Потрудись их внести в мой счёт. Но прошу тебя впредь никогда не давать Н[иколаю] Л[ьвовичу] ни копейки, если я о том не буду тебя просить.

Я здесь скучаю и томлюсь почти так же, как в Москве. Если б не братья и не отец, ради которых я собственно и приехал, то я не остался бы здесь ни единой минуты. Хуже всего то, что у меня здесь нескончаемое количество разных родных и я по горло увяз в этом океане родственности. По большей части все это люди мне совершенно чуждые, а между тем бывать нужно. Господи! Когда же, наконец, я попаду хоть в Камчатку, лишь бы жить свободно и одиноко!

Merci за Балакирева. Это действительно добрый и хороший человек, но видеться с ним я желаю меньше, чем с кем-либо. Он очень тяжёлый и деспотически требовательный собеседник.

Детские пиэсы печатать можно. Что касается 12 пиэс, то мне необходимо их всё-таки просмотреть — я их не видел ни разу. Поэтому потрудись, мой друг, прислать их сюда, и притом как можно скорее, ибо долго я здесь не останусь и, во всяком случае, не долее 1-го ноября. Сегодня сюда приехал Рубинштейн; я был у него тотчас после приезда и завтракал. Он немедленно после завтрака уехал к ''великому князю''. Завтра мы вместе будем обедать у Лароша.
