Dear Countess!

I hasten to send you my warmest congratulations on the occasion of the great and unexpected news of which you had the kindness to inform me [1].

Yet I can not help but regret that this happy event shall deprive Moscow and all Russia of a charming artist who could not be more well-received.

May God grant you every happiness and prosperity. I do not know whether I shall see you in Paris; I have not decided where I am travelling from England; it depends upon some letters that I am expecting. In any case, until we meet, because I am determined to have the pleasure of seeing you.

I kiss your hands; my deepest bow to your mother, and regards to your wife.

Sincerely devoted,

P. Tchaikovsky
