24 July 1893 I'm replying in haste. Do for No. 13 whatever is easiest and most convenient [1]. I'm very sorry for not warning you. I submit this to the Minister of Internal Affairs for approval, and make a firm promise not to interfere in these matters. Until we meet! Yours, P. Tchaikovsky |

- ↑ Tchaikovsky is replying to a letter from Pyotr Jurgenson dated 22 July/3 August 1893, in which the publisher enquired which title should be used for No. 13 of the Eighteen Pieces, Op. 72: Echo rustique or Refrain fantastique — the former was written on the title page, but Tchaikovsky later changed his mind and wrote the latter at the head of the piece in the score. Ultimately the piece was published under the title Echo rustique.
