Спасибо тебе, Модинька, за все твои письма, полученные частью здесь, частью в Брюсселе. Вчера я вернулся сюда на другой день после моего блестящего тамошнего концерта. Оркестр оказался хороший, даже очень хороший, но мало дисциплинированный. Все принимали меня там очень радушно и мило, но от этого мне нисколько не было легче, так что в Брюсселе я страдал вдвойне: и от волнения, и от тоски. В антракте ''Геварт'', в качестве председателя общества вспомоществования артистов, перед собранным оркестром сказал мне благодарственное приветствие и вообще обошёлся весьма мило. Я отказался от гонорара ввиду благотворительной цели концерта, и это обстоятельство очень тронуло артистов. Как бы то ни было, но я с удовольствием уехал из Брюсселя, где, между прочим, меня одолевали ''Маккар'' с Nоёl'ем. Зилоти не ездил в Брюссель вследствие того, что Вера рожала как раз в это время. Родила она благополучно.

(Ich möchte lieber die Programm Simfonie ''Manfred'' dirigiren, {{sic|ab|aber}} da sie sehr {{sic|schwehr|schwer}} ist, {{sic|fürch|fürchte}} ich mit 2 Proben damit {{sic|nich|nicht}} {{sic|vertig sein|fertig zu werden}}.) Die Stimmen werde ich schon [?] besorgen.  
Здесь, несмотря на Панаму, производит некоторую сенсацию моё письмо, напечатанное в «''Paris''» по поводу статьи о ''Lamoureux'' и его успехах в «''Figaro''».
 
Уезжаю я через три дня. Придётся посвятить их визитам, и сердце сжимается при этой мысли. Пожалуйста, пиши мне в Одессу; адрес — ''гост[иница] «Лондон»''.

Thank you [[Modinka]] for all your letters, some of which I received here, some in [[Brussels]]. I came back here yesterday, the day after my brilliant concert over there. The orchestra performed well, if not very well, but had little discipline. Everyone there received me very cordially and kindly, but this did not make it any easier for me, so that in [[Brussels]] I suffered twofold: from agitation, and from melancholy. At the interval, ''[[Gevaert]]'', in his role as head of the artists' mutual benevolent society, expressed his gratitude in front of the assembled orchestra and was generally very kind. I refused the fee because of the charitable nature of the concert, and the performers were very touched by this fact. At any rate, I left [[Brussels]] with great pleasure, where, by the way, ''[[Mackar]]'' and Noël had both annoyed me. [[Ziloti]] didn't go to [[Brussels]] as Vera was giving birth, successfully, at this time.  


Here, despite Panama, my letter printed in "''Paris''" regarding the article about ''Lamoureux'' and his successes in "''Figaro''", is making some sensation.

Ich danke Ihnen herzlich! Also dirigire ich [im] Concert [am] 1en Juni meine 4te Simphonie. (Ich möchte lieber die Programm Simfonie Manfred dirigiren, ab da sie sehr schwehr ist, fürch ich mit 2 Proben damit nich vertig sein.) Die Stimmen werde ich schon [?] besorgen.

I thank you heartily! So at the concert on 1 June I shall conduct my 4th Symphony. (I would prefer to conduct the programme symphony Manfred, but as that is very difficult, I am afraid that I would not be able to manage it with just two rehearsals). I shall take care of the parts.
