Russian poet and translator (b. 23 November/5 December 1803 at Ovstug; d. 15/27 July 1873 in Saint Petersburg), born Fyodor Tyutchev (Фёдор Иванович Тютчев).
Tchaikovsky's Settings of Works by Tyutchev
Two of Tchaikovsky's Six Romances, Op. 25 (1875) were set to words by Tyutchev:
- No. 2, As Over the Burning Ashes (Как над горячею золой) — after an untitled poem (1830?).
- No. 3, Mignon's Song (Песнь Миньоны) — a translation (c. 1851) from the German of Kennst du das Land? in book 3 of the novel Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre (1795) by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832).
The words of Tears (Слёзы) — No. 3 of Tchaikovsky's Six Duets, Op. 46 (1880) — come from an untitled poem by Tyutchev (1850).
