30 янв[аря] 1886 с[ело] Майданово Многоуважаемый Василий Сергеевич!
10-го числа будет происходить празднество в честь А. Рубинштейна в Большом театр, и в этот день ему нельзя будет присутствовать на нашем вечере. А так как я непременно желаю, чтобы он при этом присутствовал, да и он сам этого очень желает, то придётся отложить вечер до 17-го февраля. Я так и сказал ему, и он обещал быть. Напишите мне словечка 2 ответа согласны, ли Вы на то? Если почему-либо Вам 17-го числа никак нельзя, то выберите какой хотите день, но только не 10-е число, потому что в этот день будет представление, большой обед, на котором мне нельзя не быть, — и как-то неудобно слушать после большого обеда и сопряжённого с ним пьянства духовную музыку. Пожалуйста, извините меня, — но, ей-Богу, не виноват, — я сделал все возможное, чтобы наш вечер состоялся 10-ro. Жду Вашего ответа. Искренно преданный, П. Чайковский |
30 January 1886 Maydanovo village Most respected Vasily Sergeyevich!
Celebrations will be taking place on the 10th in honour of A. Rubinstein at the Bolshoi Theatre, and he will be unable to attend out meeting on this date. But as I certainly want him to attend, as indeed he himself very much wishes, then it is necessary to postpone the evening until 17th February. I informed him of this, and he promises to be there. Write to me a couple of words in reply whether you are agreeable to this? If for some reason you cannot do the 17th, then choose whatever day you want, but just not the 10th, because there will be a performance and grand dinner on this day which I have no choice but to attend — and it seems somehow inappropriate to listen to church music after a grand dinner and all the boozing that accompanies it. Please, forgive me — but, my God, it's not my fault; I did everything possible for our evening to take place on the 10th. I await your reply. Sincerely devoted, P. Tchaikovsky |
