Вы не можете сомневаться в том, что я принял очень близко к сердцу содержание письма Вашего и поспешил сообщить Эрдмансдёрферу Ваше желание. Нужно Вам сказать, что как раз накануне у нас из-за программ было очень бурное заседание дирекции, на котором Эрдмансдёрфер, по поводу требования Танеева, чтобы он представил на обсуждение дирекции свои программы, решительно отказался подчиниться этому требованию. К несчастью, контракт с ним заключён такой, что он полный хозяин в составлении программ. Ещё прибавлю, что Эрдмансдёрфер с крайней неохотой согласился на то, чтобы в концерте 14 ноября и повторении его 15-го я дирижировал. Таким образом, он не особенно расположен исполнять мои просьбы. Однако ж он сказал мне, что, хотя все программы уже составлены, он постарается, по возможности, исполнить Ваше желание. Перед отъездом я ещё раз переговорю с ним об этом деле. Moscow 16 November 1887 Dear friend Eduard Frantsovich!
Be in no doubt that I took the contents of your letter very close to heart and I hastened to inform Erdmannsdörfer of your wishes. I need to tell you that the day before our programme there was a very stormy meeting of the directorate, at which Erdmannsdörfer, in response to Taneyev's demand that he presents his programmes for discussion by the directors, categorically refused to comply with this demand. Unfortunately his contract stipulates that he is wholly responsible for the contents of the programme. I'll also add that, with extreme reluctance, Erdmannsdörfer agreed that the concert of 14 November and the repeat on the 15th shall be conducted by me. It would therefore seem that he's not especially inclined to carry out my requests. However, he told me that although the programmes had already been drawn up, he will attempt, when the opportunity arises, to fulfil your request. Before leaving I'll discuss this matter with him one more time. Forgive me for not replying to your letter at once; I wanted to give you a more definitive response, which is why I waited. Both my concerts (the second was a popular one) had great success. I received many wreaths and gifts. The first time I conducted very poorly and nervously, but the second time was much better.
