Rome

Rome

Dear Maestro!

Despite having firmly resolved to stay in Rome in the most complete isolation (motivated by reasons that I hope to explain to you verbally), I shall take advantage of your most kind invitation today [1].

I shall be coming to the concert. I certainly would not want anybody besides you to know that I will be there.

Yours with all my heart,

P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. Tchaikovsky was replying to a letter from Giovanni Sgambati dated 5/17 April 1890, inviting him to a concert in Rome at which his String Quartet No. 1 was to be performed.
