11 ноября Избавь меня навсегда от помощи непрошеных помощников корректоров. Пока я жив и здоров, не хочу ни чьей помощи. Господин, корректировавший (черным карандашом) пятую часть сюиты, напутал мне столько, сколько ни один самый ужасный гравёр не напутает. Где нужно поправить, он не видит. Где не нужно, он царапает что-то такое сбоку без всякой нужды, а где и удачно поймает, — то так отметит, что ничего понять нельзя. Кто этот благодетель?... Этот джентельмен много мне крови сегодня испортил.

11 November Spare me forever from the uninvited help of assistant proofreaders. So long as I'm alive and well, I don't want anyone's help. The gentleman who corrected (in black pencil) the fifth movement of the suite has befuddled me more than any single awful engraver. Where there is something to correct, he does not see it. Where there isn't, he scratches something in the margin for no reason, and where he manages to catch something, he will mark it in such a way that it's impossible to understand anything. Who is this benefactor?... This gentleman has made my blood boil today.
