Regarding Collin-Mazin, I am terribly guilty before you. I was with him on the same day that I was with Naquet, but there were no chevalets ready, and we agreed that if they hadn't come by the Wednesday morning (the day of my departure), then I myself would call at 3 o'clock. But there were so many trials and tribulations on the day I left that I literally wasn't able to go. I wanted to explain all this to you at our first meeting, and as usual I forgot. What's to be done now? But, for God's sake, forgive me.

Antonina Ivanovna is bombarding me with letters. She has come up with a new wheeze — declaring that she is passionately in love and seeking a rendezvous, while at the same time explaining that she is living with someone who adores her passionately, but since he has an irritable disposition, then she has fallen in love with me again, and is prepared to give me some extraordinarily sensual delights. She is, in my opinion, a complete madwoman. Her letters are indescribably upsetting to me; all this week I haven't written anything, I'm unwell, I've lost my appetite, I'm despondent, etc. Most of all, I don't know how to answer such a madwoman. I've tried paying her off and offering her 600 rubles a year again, promising to increase this if she left me in peace. I asked her not to write to me, but to approach you directly for money. I'll let her have it monthly or quarterly. So please take this into consideration.

Speaking of money... I want to settle 2 minor matters: 1) how much is due to me in performance fees from the Moscow Musical Society from the last year, and have you received anything from them yet?, and 2) when you have the opportunity, ask Osip Ivanovich whether "Onegin" was staged after Easter? It was in the repertoire, but perhaps the production didn't take place.

I really need a little money, e.g. 100 rubles. So could you send me some by post? Please, don't forget to give me the Hubert's address when you ascertain it.

I hope to see you shortly — but I won't be going to Ostafyevo. I'm writing to Sofya Ivanovna about this. Congratulations to you on your forthcoming celebration, and my heartfelt thanks for your telegram on 29 June.

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky
