Dear friend!

The enclosed letter [1] is for I. A. Vsevolozhsky. I hope with all my heart that this letter contributes to fulfilling my sincere desire to render a service to Aleksandra Pavlovna [2]. My heartfelt thanks for the photograph [3]. I shall send you mine tomorrow. A thousand best wishes and greetings to Aleksandra Pavlovna.

Notes and References

  1. See Letter 3255 to Ivan Vsevolozhsky of the same date.
  2. Aleksandra Pavlovna Krutikova (1851-1919), singer (mezzo-soprano), who had been with the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow since 1880, but had just had her contract terminated by its unpopular new director, Apollon Aleksandrovich Maykov (1826-1902), supposedly due to financial considerations.
  3. The Tchaikovsky House-Museum at Klin has four photographs of Bogomir Korsov, inclduing one in the role of the Devil (from the opera Cherevichki) and two in the title role from Mazepa. It is not known which of these Korsov sent on this occasion, nor which of himself Tchaikovsky sent in return.
