1-го июля Модест совершенная моя копия; ещё не кончил работу, а уж просит денег. Он скоро пришлёт весь первый том, а теперь спрашивает, нельзя ли получить 200 р[ублей] вперёд, которые ему очень нужны. Мне немножко совестно писать тебе об этом, но охотно вместо тебя послал ему, если бы были свободные деньги. Чувствую, что ты не откажешь, и заранее благодарю. Адрес его Боржом, Кавалерская гост[иницам]. 5-го числа приеду, если ты этого желаешь, с величайшим удовольствием. П. Чайковский

1st July Modest is my impeccable copy; he still hasn't finished the work, yet he still asks for money. He will be sending the entire first volume shortly, but for now asks whether you might forward him 200 rubles, of which he is in great need. I'm somewhat embarrassed to write of this to you, but I should have gladly sent it to him rather than you, had I any money to spare. I have a feeling that you won't refuse, and thank you in advance.
