Спасибо за письмо, милый Володя, и за прелестную песенку. Замечательно, что, несмотря на современность текста, мелодия песни совершенно такая же, как в старинных. Тональность определить очень трудно, но вернее всего, что она фригийская. Меня очень тронула приписка Базилиты; пожалуйста, поцелуй её от меня как можно крепче. Надеюсь, что мы с ней осенью повидаемся.

Я страшно работаю, ибо необходимо кончить как можно скорее партитуру симфонии. Вероятно, в скором времени поеду ненадолго погостить в Каменку. Не знаю, застанет ли тебя это письмо в Москве, и потому не особенно распространяюсь.

Ларош с женой гостит у меня. Прощай, до свиданья, обнимаю тебя.

Thank you for the letter, dear Volodya, and for the delightful song [1]. It's remarkable that, despite the modern words, the melody of the song is exactly as it was in ancient times. The tonality is difficult to discern, but it's most likely Phrygian. I was very touched by Bazalita's [2] postscript; please give her the firmest possible kiss from me. I hope we'll see each other in the autumn.

I'm working terribly, because of the need to finish the full score of the symphony as quickly as possible. I'll probably go for a short stay at Kamenka soon. I don't know whether this letter will catch you in Moscow, and so I won't expatiate.

Laroche and his wife are staying with me. Goodbye, until we meet, I embrace you.
