Geehrter Herr Berger!

1) Introd[uzione] u[nd] Fug[a]
2) Divertimento
3) Andante
4) Marche Miniature
5) Gavotte

Respected Herr Berger!

I have just received your second letter. I have already written to you earlier today and will reiterate now that the Suite [1] as performed shall consist of

1) Introduzione and Fuga
2) Divertimento
3) Andante
4) Marche Miniature
5) Gavotte

It is essential to have 3 flutes for the Suite, of which the third player alternates between the large and little flutes.

I am bringing the parts with me.

Until we meet!

Your most devoted,

P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. Tchaikovsky's forthcoming concert at the St. James's Hall in London on 30 March/11 April would include his Suite No. 1, although the composer had decided to omit the fifth movement (Scherzo).
